Or maybe they were in fact in full strength and they are just weak sauce (I don't think that explanation). It might be that Andariel and Duriel themselves also were in the process of reforming but because their essences are weaker than the Prime Evils they take less time to reform, and as such may have gathered just enough strength to at least take form, though perhaps not at their full strength. We know Mephisto at this point is reforming his essence in Hell and is weaker than when in his true form. Why did Andarial and Duriel bother helping Lilith out? And why did they feel as weak as they were? What is even more puzzling is that we get to fight both Andarial and Duriel as bosses before ever reaching Lilith. Why didn't she just demand free passage? Is it that Astaroth rivals her in power and as such she needed to make a deal with him, or is it that she just would rather not fight in person and instead prefer manipulating behind the scenes unless forced to (just like Mephisto her father)? Who knows. We see that Lilith makes a deal with Astaroth, one of the lieutenants of Mephisto, to give her free passage to the Cathedral of Hatred in return for freeing him from his soulstone. Lilith is a direct "child" of Mephisto (whatever that means) while the other demons/angels might just have been a bunch of scrubs as far as we're concerned.Īt this point Inarius was also strong enough to imprison Lilith in the void (twice), so we can assume that he was either as strong as her or maybe even stronger.įast forwarding, we get to diablo 4. This gives the impression that she is indeed very powerful - however we don't really know how powerful the rebel angels/demons were, so we can't really gauge how much of an achievement this is. We know Lilith went a little (and by a little I mean a lot) bonkers after finding out her Nephalem children may have been in danger of getting destroyed by the other rebel angels/demons, and she managed to slaughter virtually all of them. Using the Worldstone they may have somehow powered themselves up ( making you wonder if the Great Evils themselves also could have done that before, or if this was a lore oversight, like hyperspace crashing your spaceship into other spaceships in the Star Wars sequels ). When Lilith and Inarius rebelled, they stole the Worldstone, created Sanctuary and hid away within it. Though this is difficult to tell because Mephisto being a Prime Evil has more power than the Lesser Evils, and as such his direct children might share a certain amount of power from him that could rival those of the Lesser Evils (personally I don't think so). So we can assume that before the creation of Sanctuary, Lilith was probably below in rank both in power and authority. It has also been stated by Deckard Cain that the Seven Great Evils are the greatest demons (I don't know if this has been retconned). We know that the Prime Evils are the most powerful of the Great Evils, so they reign at the top of the hierarchy. Since no demon underling has successfully supplanted the lord of their realm, we can assume the great evils are the most powerful within each of their own realm. The 3 primary heads became the Prime Evils, and the remaining 4 heads became the Lesser Evils. We know that the Great Evils all are remnants of Tathamet, the Great Dragon and sum of all evil, and that when he died his body became the Burning Hells, and his 7 heads became the Great Evils who took dominion over each of the 7 realms within it. I apologize if its been asked before, and for the wall of texts. From character builds and skills to lore and theories, we have it all covered. Welcome to the un official Diablo 4 subreddit!
